Carmel SWAT Team Trains at Laser Flash

When temperatures dip below zero and there’s a foot of snow on the ground, the Carmel SWAT Team looks for indoor training options. Twice this winter the Carmel SWAT Team has trained in the laser tag arena at Laser Flash.

With the highly programmable game software from LASERTRON, the staff at Laser Flash is able to customize parameters to provide a useful training program for the Carmel Police Department. Some of the members of the SWAT team play the role of “bad guys” and hide out in the 7,800 sq. ft. arena. The other members of the team try to flush them out without being tagged in the process.

The idea of using Laser Flash for training was suggested by Sergeant Adam Miller. He worked with Laser Flash owner Peter Murphy to design 4 different training scenarios by selecting appropriate parameters in the laser tag game software. These game formats are now among the 150 different game formats stored on the game computer and can be recalled any time the SWAT team comes to train.

The training at Laser Flash is both realistic and is fun for the officers. Detailed score sheets with each officer’s codename is provided during the training to help them evaluate their performance.
